Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust (LTHT), one of the UK’s largest, is internationally renowned for research and innovation which drives advances in clinical science and health technologies.

The National Pathology Imaging Cooperative (NPIC)

The National Pathology Imaging Cooperative (NPIC) provides globally-leading cancer diagnostics using artificial intelligence to transform care. Hosted by Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, the £50 million cooperative comprises the NHS, industry and academia.

Leeds Centre for Healthtech Innovation

A community of around 150 scientists and clinical academics are working on this joint research initiative to accelerate the development and adoption of new health technologies. 

Research excellence

Leeds’ three major universities are renowned for their world-class research in health and wellbeing impacting local communities and the city’s specialist clinical research facilities are international centres of excellence. In addition to the city’s outstanding £40m NIHR infrastructure, Leeds also hosts the NIHR Yorkshire and Humber Regional Research Delivery Network and the National Research Delivery Network Coordinating Centre.

Leeds Beckett University specialises in applied research, with thematic strengths in obesity, active lifestyles, psychological wellbeing, dementia, community-based wellbeing and the reduction of health inequalities.

NIHR Leeds Biomedical Research Centre (BRC)

NIHR Leeds Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) is hosted by Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. Focusing on musculoskeletal disease, cardiometabolic disease, surgical technologies, haematology, pathology and antimicrobial resistance, the BRC transforms cutting edge medical research into innovative improvements in healthcare.

NIHR Leeds Clinical Research Facility (CRF)

NIHR Leeds Clinical Research Facility (CRF) is hosted by Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, working with industry, research councils and charities, to run more than 100 early-stage clinical trials a year to pioneer new treatments.
